The Town of Skaneateles is seeking a part-time planner to work up to 20 hours a week. The candidate must demonstrate at least ten years of detailed planning work with a municipality that is comparable or larger than Skaneateles.
This is a professional position responsible for a wide range of assignments under the supervision of the Town Board. This portion requires a thorough knowledge of the planning process and the ability to complete assignments in a precise and timely manner. This position offers the right candidate an opportunity to play an integral part in the Town’s growth. The planner will also provide support to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.
The Town of Skaneateles is located about 20 miles southwest of the City of Syracuse and serves as the eastern gateway to the Finger Lakes region. Skaneateles Lake is the major natural feature of the area. The Town contains 4,175 parcels comprised of commercial, residential, and agricultural properties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Engineering, or some closely related field.
- Equivalent education/experience applies.
- AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification is preferred.
- Must have good reasoning skills and be able to read, comprehend, and interpret the Town of Skaneateles Zoning Code and Comprehensive Plan.
- Must possess basic computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software applications.
- Must possess good oral and technical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans.
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines with little to no supervision.
