Janet L. Aaron, Town Clerk Janet is a native of Skaneateles who's ancestors were dairy farmers in Skaneateles. She graduated from Skaneateles Central School and earned a Associate Degree in Business Administration from Cayuga Community College. Janet and her husband Bill have been married for 37 years. They have a son, daughter, and three grandchildren. Janet and Bill have lived in Rhode Island, Glens Falls and Corning, NY before moving back to Skaneateles in 1978. Since that time Janet has been involved with the PTC, school programs, and many of the youth sports organizations. She worked as a part time clerk at the Village of Skaneateles from 1983 until 1988 and was then appointed to the position of Deputy Town Clerk to Juanita Newell. In 1994, Janet was appointed Town Clerk when Juanita retired. Janet was elected to the position of Town Clerk in November 1994 and re-elected in subsequent elections. Janet was a District Director and has earned the title of Registered Municipal Clerk with the NYS Town Clerks Association. She is a member and past President of the Onondaga County Town Clerks Association as well as a member and past President of a local investment club. In 2008, Janet was honored with the designation of Town Clerk of the Year for District #5 with the NYS Town Clerks Association. The Office of Town Clerk is known as the "doorway to local government". As Skaneateles Town Clerk, Janet is the Records Access Officer and Records Management Officer. She has been instrumental in completing a records management grant that organized and computerized the Town's records which has greatly helped in record retrieval for requests from officials of the Town and residents of the community. While the Town Clerk is generally credited with issuing licenses, that is only a small part of the job. As Town Clerk, Janet records all minutes of the town board meetings, is freedom of information officer, and administrator of the substance testing program for all cdl drivers and employees at the community center. Human resource coordinator between the town board and human resource consultants. She oversees an office that issues transfer station permits and receives recycling revenues, handles passport applications, receives permit fees for the codes, planning and zoning offices, collects all water and sewer payments, handles all insurance reporting, personnel files and coordination with onondaga county department of personnel, and is the town web site coordinator for technical support.
